What is a KOT?

A KOT (kitchen order ticket) is the slip that tells the kitchen what to cook for a table or order. It is not the customer's bill: it lists the dishes and quantities and the table, and it goes to the kitchen the moment the order is taken. The bill is made later, when the guest asks for it.

Handwritten KOTs get lost, are hard to read and don't match the final bill. KOT billing software prints the KOT from the same order that later becomes the bill, so what was cooked is what gets billed.

How KOT works in VelBooks POS

  1. Pick the table (or choose takeaway/parcel).
  2. Add the dishes from tiles, search or item codes.
  3. Send the KOT; it prints for the kitchen.
  4. Add more dishes to the same table as guests order; send another KOT.
  5. When guests ask for the bill, turn the table's order into a GST bill and settle by cash, UPI QR, card or split.
  6. Print the bill or send it on WhatsApp. The table is free for the next guests.

Offline too

VelBooks POS works offline, so taking orders and billing continue when the internet drops, and bills sync later. Offline billing.

Hardware for KOT billing

  • Android tablet or phone. VelBooks POS runs on Android tablets and phones, so a counter can start with a device you may already own.
  • Thermal receipt printer. Receipts print on 80 mm or 58 mm thermal paper, and on A4/A5 when you need a full page. Tell us your printer model and we will confirm it before you buy.
  • Barcode scanner (optional). Scan packaged items, or type the short item code shown on each tile.
  • Cash drawer (optional). Tick Open cash drawer on the payment screen when you take cash.
  • Internet. Needed to sync and to receive online orders, but VelBooks POS keeps billing when the connection drops. See offline billing.
