GST Billing Software That Creates Invoices in Seconds

Professional, GST-ready invoices with the right tax split every time, from any device. Stock and accounts update as you bill.

Create correct GST invoices without a tax manual

A GST invoice is not just a bill with tax added. It must carry specific details, and the tax must be split correctly depending on where the goods are supplied. VelBooks fills these in from your business profile, customer details and item master, so your staff only choose the customer and the items.

  • Your business name, address and GSTIN on every invoice
  • Customer name, address and GSTIN for B2B invoices
  • Item description, HSN/SAC code, quantity, unit, rate and discount
  • Taxable value and GST worked out per line
  • CGST + SGST for sales within your state, IGST for sales to another state
  • Consecutive invoice numbering
  • Scan barcodes to add items instead of searching for them

How to create a GST invoice in VelBooks

Five steps from sign-up to your first compliant invoice.

  1. Set up once: sign up at app.velbooks.com and enter your business name, address, state and GSTIN. These print on every invoice.
  2. Add items: name, unit, selling price, HSN/SAC code, GST rate and barcode. Not sure of a code? Use the HSN code finder.
  3. Add customers: for B2B buyers, save their GSTIN and state so place of supply is right.
  4. Bill: choose the customer, scan or pick items, adjust quantity or discount. VelBooks applies CGST + SGST or IGST and totals the invoice.
  5. Save and print or share the invoice. Stock, the customer's account and your GST data update from the same bill.

Frequently asked questions

What is GST billing software?
Software that creates GST-compliant invoices (with GSTIN, HSN/SAC, taxable value and the CGST/SGST or IGST split), numbers them consecutively and keeps a record of every sale for your GST returns. Our guide explains what GST billing software is and how it differs from accounting software.
Is it mandatory to use GST billing software?
GST law requires your invoices to contain the prescribed details, not that you use a particular software. Software makes it much easier to get the details and tax split right every time. Businesses above the e-invoicing turnover limit must also report B2B invoices to the Invoice Registration Portal.
How many digits of HSN code should I show?
If your aggregate turnover in the previous financial year was up to ₹5 crore, show at least 4 digits on B2B invoices. Above ₹5 crore, show 6 digits on all invoices.
Can I use VelBooks for non-GST bills?
Yes. VelBooks is billing software for general invoicing too, so businesses that are not GST-registered can use it for their bills, stock and accounts.
Can I make GST bills on my phone?
Yes. VelBooks runs in your phone's browser. Sign in at app.velbooks.com; there is nothing to install.
Which GST billing software is best?
It depends on what you need beyond invoices: stock with barcodes, accounts, GST returns, an online store, the devices you use and price. VelBooks covers all of these in one browser app from ₹299 per month + GST. For a neutral list, read our honest shortlist of billing software in India.
Is free GST billing software available?
Some private products have free plans with limits. The government's free software scheme for taxpayers under ₹1.5 crore ended on 31 March 2021; read the details. VelBooks has a 30-day free trial of every feature.
Can I download a free GST bill format in Excel?
Yes. Download our GST invoice format in Excel or PDF, or make a one-off bill online with the free GST invoice generator. For regular billing, software is safer because it numbers invoices, applies tax and updates stock automatically.
What is the best GST billing app for PC?
On a PC you don't need an installer: VelBooks runs in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on Windows, Mac or Linux, and the same account works on your phone. If you must bill without internet, choose desktop software instead.
